How to Tame your Dragon Birthday

     Put a little girl together with her current favorite movie, add her 4th Birthday, and what do you get?  A fun-filled "How to Train Your Dragon" party!  A grand time was had by all.  The cake itself was yummy-with made-to-look-like-granite buttercream, chocolate candy rocks and a hand-moldeled baby "Toothless" Dragon.  In addition there were hilarious Viking Horn Hat Weecakies as favors.  The Viking hats are chocolate cake truffles with chocolate horns, dipped in special gray-tinted chocolate with added trim.  We laughed ourselves silly as we put them together.  Isn't that what our jobs should be-tasks that challenge our creativity and abilities, but also bring joy and laughter to ourselves and others?   Happy Birthday to a sweet 4-year old and a wonderful day to everyone else!

Weecakies Tedddybear Rattle

     A favorite client called and asked if I could make pink rattles for an up-coming baby-girl shower and I welcomed the challenge.  After trying many simple ideas such as a swirl around each end of the rattle,  glitter and sugar, I decided to modify my Yummy Bear Weecakies into this rattle design.  There is a cake-ball on each end of a larger-gauge sucker stick, dipped in pastel-pink chocolate.  The bear face is made using chocolate candies before dipping and then decorating with handmade chocolate hearts and chocolate bows with black eye pearl candies.

Of course they could be any color or cake flavor to fit into your party plans.  The pic on the left is how I package them for favors.  They were lots of work, with loads of hand-applied detail, but totally worth it. I had fun creating again!

Elephants!

      A couple of weeks ago I got to make this cute elephant for a baby shower. It was fun to make, and challenging because we were without any electricity the day before, and also because the client didn't want any fondant, just buttercream icing. It is difficult to get buttercream smooth on curved surfaces without chilling it between icing layers, so since there was no electricity, there was no chilling-no kidding! Anyway, it turned out well, and had chocolate ears, tusks and dots. I learned lots from the experience. Happy Baby Girl Shower! (Thanks Jessica Newman for the darling pic) I LOVE making cake!

Oink-oink-ers, Cluck-cluck-ers, and Moo-moo-ers Weecakies

    
 Ever since I made these Farm Animals I have been thinking of this song that I learned when I was very young.  We sang it often because we had the special yellow cover-book that it was in and my older sister liked playing it on the piano. We also sang it in Primary (which met on Tuesday afternoons after school, by the way) and had a grand time seeing who could make the best animal sounds when we came to the part in the song that describes the animals. These Weecakies are deep, dark chocolate cake truffles, dipped in white or colored chocolate and decorated with various sugar cut-outs. They are wonderful and sure to please any child, no matter what the age!  I had a great childhood, filled with sunshine, music and, most of all, love.

  Grandpa's Farm (or The Apple Tree)

I climbed up the apple tree   To see just what there was to see.

I looked down on Grandpa's farm   All laid out in patchwork charm!

There's a baa-baa sheep and a bow-wow dog, An oink-oink pig and a croak-y frog,

There's a moo-moo cow and a meow-y cat,  A cackly hen and other things like that!

Princess and the Pea Weecakies

     




     Do you know the story of the Princess and the Pea?  It is an Anderson fairy tale-as in Hans Christian.  I love fairy tales.  Anyway, the story tells of a Prince who was looking for a true Princess to marry. He looked high and low, and left and right and, well, you can read the complete story for yourself at: http://childhoodreading.com/?p=5.  The true Princess was actually kept awake all night by a silly little pea under a stack of fluffy mattresses and feather beds!  So, a couple of weeks ago a sweet young mother contacted me needing Princess and the Pea-head Weecakies for her daughter's first birthday celebration and this is what I came up with.  Aren't they cute?  I actually had a couple of sleepless nights myself thinking of ways to make a pea-head cute.  These Weecakies are deep chocolate cake truffles dipped in green Callebaut chocolate, topped with a green chocolate hat, chocolate tendril and a white flower.  Happy piped faces and rosy cheeks round out the design.  What a fun theme for a child's birthday party.  Happy Happy birthday little Princess!

Purple Monster Weecakies

When I was a little girl, my older brothers would play a song over and over and over again, and it scared me to death. Its lyrics went: "There was a one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater, a one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater, a one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater...... " and of course, all I heard was that one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater line because it was repeated over and over and over. I remember thinking: "Great. Now there's something more to be scared of." And I was SCARED. Because the Purple People Eater could fly and swoop down and get me. I was an intense little girl. My imagination would keep me awake at night. Well, after a while of being scared of the Purple People Eater, I listened to the lyrics again and finally convinced myself that the Purple People Eater was looking for purple people to eat, so since I wasn't purple, I was safe. We think such silly things when we are young. Today I am paying homage to one of those monsters that kept me awake at night...A one-eyed one-horned purple people eater. Yes, my monsters are purple dipped cake truffle, the flavor of your choice, decorated with a chocolate horn atop their heads and one eye. Don't you love the glossy iris in the eyeball? And for some reason in my picture, there is a light beam erupting from one of the monster's horns. Oooooooooooooooo........scary music playing in the background. As for the flying part, I promise you that these Purple Monster Weecakies will fly off the table and into hungry purple people eater mouths. These are no ordinary cakepops. Happy Halloween!

Pick Yer Pirate Weecakies

Look out all ye mateys!  There are scurvy pirates everywhere!  Today I am spotlighting pirates because my wonderful oldest daughter came over and we made these fun guys for a project of hers.  We laughed and giggled and smiled as we worked because each one has a personality of his own.  Each hand-piped mustache is different.  Some pirates are happy.  Some are pensive.  Some are just silly, but all together they make a great crew.  This week my daughter will lead over 30 Young Women Pirates to our Stake Roughout Camp.  They will pitch and sleep in tents, hike, enjoy a lake, learn camping principles, do service, and generally have a great time.  We enjoyed figuring out these Pirate Weecakies.  They are deep devil's food cake truffles dipped in colored chocolate, dipped a second time to make their scarves and they have hand-piped chocolate faces.  Everything is CHOCOLATE!  Yo ho ho and a whole lot 'o yummmmmm.  I think that my daughter did a great job creating these treats for her campers. She has a good eye.  Enjoy camping ye pirates.  Pack yer duffles, belay those tents, and above all else, shiver me timbers.  Arrrrrrrrgh.

My Dad's Brown-Topper Weecakies

 One of my Dad's favorite type of ice cream cones was what he called a "brown topper."  It was soft-serve ice cream in a cake cone dipped in melted chocolate and rolled in chopped nuts.  We would often get "brown toppers" after going to my older brother's basketball games.  Dad and I loved basketball and we enjoyed going to the very physical "Church Ball" games.  One year my brother's team was very good and they qualified to go to the "All Church Tournament."  We spent many evenings cheering our hearts out that season.  It was great.  I remember not having a voice because I had cheered and yelled myself hoarse.  So.......the perfect solution was to get ice cream brown toppers to soothe our sore throats.  When I saw these pictures of Hi-Hat cupcakes:   http://www.bakerella.com/hi-hat-cupcakes/, I thought that I would try to reproduce my Dad's brown toppers in a Weecakie form.  These Weecakies are made with a deep chocolate cake truffle dipped in chocolate and set in a kid-sized cake cone.  Then they are topped with a creamy marshmallow swirl and dipped a second time in chocolate and rolled in chopped peanuts.  Yummmmmmmm.  When you bite into the top, the chocolate and gooey marshmallow literally melt in your mouth.  The cake truffle adds a bit of brownie-like texture and the crunch of the cone and chopped peanuts top off the treat.  I love my Dad and the happy memories that I have of our times together.

Ice Cream Cone Weecakies

I have been remembering my Father and missing him. It has been almost a year since he passed away, and I have been fondly reviewing my memories of his life. My Dad loved to drive our cars, and so we went for many a ride in the evenings. Sometimes we would get in the car and go and try to find "Lost Street." After lots of riding around, and our own sense of direction getting turned backwards and forwards, Dad would then get us "unlost." Other times we would have a particular destination in mind and we would travel up the nearby canyons or along the highways to see how much snow was left, to see how high the reservoirs were, to see the changing colors in the fall, or to see new construction projects. We would often sing and play verbal games as we went along. These times with my Dad and Mom are among my treasured memories. Often we would start out our "ride" with a visit to the ice-cream store where we would each get our favorite flavor of ice cream cone. Daddy loved ice cream, and so when I saw these ice cream cones on http://www.bakerella.com/i-scream-you-scream-we-all-scream-for%e2%80%a6 a while ago, I was excited to make them for myself.  The cones are coated inside with milk chocolate, topped with a cake truffle, flavor of your choice, dipped in pink colored chocolate and sprinkled with multi-colored sprinkles.  Then it is topped with a semi-sweet chocolate dollop and a peanut butter "M&M" cherry.  I miss my Dad, but I have loads of very happy memories of him and our times together eating ice cream cones.

Dalmatian Weecakies





Have you ever seen a dalmatian? I must admit that I have only seen 2 real dalmatians in my lifetime. When my daughter's friend requested Dalmatian Weecakies, I had to Google images of dalmatians to figure out what they really look like. Do they have clipped ears or floppy ears? Are the ears white, black or spotted? And then what about those spots? Are the spots like dots, or are they all different? Well, these Dalmatian Weecakies are my interpretation of what I learned. Inside they are wonderfully decadent fudge cake truffle with an M&M added for the muzzle of the dog. Then they are dipped in white chocolate and decorated with black colored chocolate accents-nose, spots and ears. Finally there is a colored Gummy Lifesaver added on the bottom of the head for a doggie collar. Fun Fun, and yummy too. WOOF! Happy Dalmatian Weecakies to you!

 

Yummy Bear Weecakies
